Meg Schaap was born in the Netherlands.
Upon graduation of high school, she studied art in Nijmegen and Groningen at the Academy of Art Minerva. Leaving early, she started to travel the world, she lived in Spain, London, Paris, and Munich.
In 1998, she moved to Naples, FL with her husband, where their three children grew up.
She completed her studies at Florida Gulf Coast University and received her BA, Magna cum Laude in Art in 2010. Nine years ago, she and her family moved to Potomac, MD.
As a visual artist, Meg is interested in the similarities and differences between global social cultures. Having lived amongst different cultures throughout her life, she is always adapting to different cultural habits. Painting has been a way for her to let go, take risks and make statement about the world she has come to know. On the canvas, she is free and fearless. Her paintings are bold and contain bright colors. Spontaneity has always been a common theme for Meg in her artwork. She uses mainly acrylic paint, but she commonly incorporates mixed media elements in her pieces. Recently, she has centered her work around feminine figures. The women she paints are strong and command a sense of power and respect.
